thoughts

I have been sort of away of SL because my cat is sick and I spend less time in front of the computer at home. When I got back from my vacation, he was different. I can’t explain all the symptoms but I have noticed that the cat was not doing the usual stuff he does around the house. He has been too quiet. So, we went to the vet and found out that his kidneys aren’t good. He also lost some weight and I have been really worried about his health.

Awww thats so sad. He is old huh? My cat is 13 years old and earlier this year i found out that her kidneys were not good either.
She was acting weird and she was sleeping all alone, in the bathroom and she was looking sad in general.

I am so very sad for you.. My Cody is black like your cat and 13 yrs old..I must go away for vacation and leave him in the care of family. I know I will worry about him as I would a child..Because, in a sense, they are just like children. They depend on us…I hope your lil guy gets well soon:)

awwww… *hugs to all of you*
I think he’s getting better but maybe it’s just me wanting to believe that. We’ll have to wait a few days to see.

Aww, I hope it’s all better soon Ana. He’s black like my little baby. So cute! i’ll pray for him to be ok. <3

Aww, Ana… I have gone through chronic renal failure with 3 cats in the past 5 years. I’ll be thinking warm thoughts for you and your little guy, and if you want to talk to someone about it who has been there, bullied veterinarians about it, and is dealing with it again now, feel free to ping me inworld. Best to you and your kitty.
June 22nd, 2008 at 21:33
Ana, I’m so sorry to hear about your kitty. I will keep you both in my thoughts, and hope nothing but the best for you two.

Thanks so much for all your support!
He’s a 16 year old cat.
It’s not a renal failure and we went to vet last Tuesday and again on Friday. The vet did a complete check up and found out the problems. He has an urinary infection, a bladder infection and the kidneys are suffering a bit. He was in a lot of pain! Poor kitty!
Now, he is on a special diet with his meds.

Hi Ana
I hope you’re kitty feels better ASAP!
Just wanted to comment because I have a cat in a similar situation. He started out with chronic bladder/UT infections and now has kidney problems permanently. About a year ago we thought for sure he had just a few months left… but the special food he’s on now has done wonders for him! He’s gained weight and is back to being loud/hyper. So now I’m a major advocate for this food (KD by Hills).
It’s quite surprising how resilient animals can be. It sounds like you’re doing everything right and he’ll be back to normal before you know it.

*smiles*
He has been eating Renal by Royal Canin. Before he ate Hills. The problem is that the biscuits are too big for him. Most vets say that Hills has the best cat food.

oooh, Poor baby! I hope the vet visits can help him. It is so hard to see our beloved kitties suffer. *hugs*

Another option, if he’s not doing well on the Royal Canin, besides the Hills k/d, is Purina NF. It has small pieces to eat, and my cats have done well on it for kidney problems. Getting a cat with kidney problems on the right diet really can make a huge difference.
Give your kitty big hugs from me. My black kitty with kidney problems is sitting right here on the desk, asking for his potassium supplement, and he sends his good kitty-vibes.

Awww, poor kitty. Get better soon.

My cat began having trouble with renal failure when she was 18, beginning with a bladder infection. She did well with Hill’s KD. When she was 19, the doctor had me begin with twice daily saline injections of fluids to keep her kidneys going. She didn’t particularly like them, but they kept her healthy and happy until she was nearly 24…a more than respectable age.

WOW! I am impressed. Seems my kitty has a lot more years to live. What makes me sad is knowing that he is in pain and I can’t do anymore that I am already doing. :/
I am going to ask the vet(s) where we can get Hill’s KD. One of Rucas’s vets is my brother-in-law but he doesn’t live near. Anyway, I can always call him.
*hugs to all of you*

Best wishes for both of you!

Aww Ana, I hope your baby is feeling better now that you got some meds. Give him kisses on his nose for me. And toes. And his forehead. And all of his paws. And rub his belly for me too.
*hugs*

Today, he finally looked a little better but, like the vet said, we would only see that he was getting better after a week or 10 days.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT!
This means the world to me.

I’m sorry to read about your kitty’s troubles. My previous cat had chronic renal failure, and it’s horrible. Here are some sites that helped me:

Best wishes.

I am going to check those websites. <3
June 25th, 2008 at 12:05
Good sites. Don’t let them overwhelm you, Ana. They’re huge! I found them especially useful when I wanted to understand something in particular the vet had told me. Lots of good, plain-English explanations of things that vets are sometimes not so good at explaining.
Keep us posted on your little guy.
June 25th, 2008 at 14:32
Let’s hope the plain-English is simple to me. (I am not a native speaker.)
The little guy is much better. We need to take him to the vet next Saturday to make sure he’s ok. The only thing he hasn’t done yet is run around the house. (This 16 years old cat used to run and play before he got sick!)
Just to clarify: my cat doesn’t suffer from Feline Chronic Renal Failure. He has got a bladder infection and an urinary infection which makes his kidneys suffer and that’s why we had to put him on special diet (Royal Canin Renal). Fortunately, we took him to vet in the right moment or else he would be suffering even more. He was in pain and he didn’t went to his a box in a whole day when we took him.
I know that Renal Failure is very common in old cats but I assure you that this cat isn’t suffering from renal failure. We will to prevent it with the special diet.
June 26th, 2008 at 17:42
I am glad to hear it is not renal failure! Hugs for both of you.
August 16th, 2008 at 1:10
I am sad to say that now it is kidney failure…
August 16th, 2008 at 5:30
oh No! It is so hard to see them suffer; my heart goes out to you.

Oh, Ana! I’m so sorry!
Do look at those sites Lunette suggested above. There’s good information on there that may help. I discovered that vets need a firm hand sometimes.
Take care of you and your kitty, and keep us posted.

We don’t know when Rucas will return home and we still don’t know how exactly is he. Hopefully, Monday after 3 days at the vet hospital he will be better and starts to eat again…
