Eve Petlyakov | 12/31/2007

The first time I saw a Greenie. “What a fun and crazy world…”

Me with my best mates Aldero Akami and Gahum Riptide cheering on Kirk and Maddox when they appeared on Fabulous Fashion for the first time.
How did you discover Second Life and what made you create an account?
I discovered Second Life when my ex-boyfriend was teasing me about The Sims. I used to play a lot. On New Years Eve 2007 I had to work late and came home to an empty apartment. He had ditched me to go to a party. I logged in to SL for the first time that night.
How did you come up with your Second Life name?
My avatar was rezzed New Years Eve…clever no? I was studying Russian at the time and really like saying Petlyakov. I think it’s pretty. Lots of people only stay inSL for a week or a month after creating an account.
What made you stay and what motivates you to log back in?
Meeting cool people made me stay, and they keep me coming back every single day.
What have you been doing in SL? Tell us your story: what have you been up to or what have you created.
I started as your run of the mill explorer. I got a job at the Naturist Resort in the Kaiya Islands as a beach guard. There I learned how to take pictures and mastered using my camera as we usually stand at the gate welcoming visitors and use our cameras to make sure that people are obeying the rules. I got a hint of fashion in my travels and happened upon KMADD and funny enough on a show day. As I lag walked to the door I was greeted by Maddox Dupont and was so taken. The show was for Icing and I was ridiculously impressed with the whole production. I was snapping pictures and posted them to my flickr account. Maddox asked for one in-world and I was out of my mind thrilled. He kept it hanging in MAD Studio for months. One day, it felt like out of the blue, he messaged me and asked me to shoot the KMADDCity.com party and after that become a MAD Studio Photographer.
Since then I have taken on the role of KMADD Manager. I try my best to keep things running smoothly and help on the sim as much as possible. When I’m not working on things for KMADD I’m shooting portfolios for friends or spending time with my friends. Especially my mister House. He’s absolutely brilliant.
Have you found, developed or improved any skills because of SL?
I found that I can capture avatars. I love candid shots. I also developed skills in GIMP. Many people think I use photoshop but I do not. I have also learned to build and create clothing, though it’s nothing I’d ever consider selling. Could you share a funny or awkward story that happened to you in SL?
My most recent awkward moment was the very first time I teleported onto the KMADD sim after I received my Manager tag. I was at Catero Revolution’s rezzday party that was being held at my friends Makenzie and Sean’s place.
True to form I was being silly and had recently discovered a pooper that rezzed turds complete with flies…and I was pooping on their lawn. (For anyone that isn’t aware, I’m usually a faun.)
Anyhoo…I tp in to KMADD and FORGET I have this thing on. Manager tag and all I hit that damn page down button and in front of a small gathering of customers proceeded to fart and take a crap on the floor. I was thinking, “Oh they didn’t notice.” Next thing I know the prim poop is being examined by at least 3 different particle beams. Epic.
What would you change or improve in Second Life?
I really wish LL would revoke the sims the copybotters like to hide on. I think they’re called stuff like “Shoes” and “Clothes” They’re evil…like the frooits of the deveel.
Can you share your current and/or future projects for SL?
I want to get more artistic with my picture work, or perhaps start a funny blog. I’m not funny that often though. Might be a stretch. The last thing I want is to be saying, “Right?! Am I right?!
” and have someone cough and that one jasckass in the back going, “Booo!”
Have you ever had any issues whatsoever within Second Life? If so, how did you report it and was the feedback positive?
I had an issue with a partner having another partner with an alt…and they were living on the same estate I was. Not really reportable. I’m still glad I met him. I learned a lot about boundaries and what the people in SL mean to me.
Is Second Life merely an online game or do you consider it more of a metaverse or a virtual world?
It’s a metaverse for sure. My friends in SL are as real to me as my first life friends. I would get on a plane to be by their side if they needed me in a heartbeat. I love them all very much. Imagine a new resident asks for your help. What would do? What would you tell him/her?
New residents ask me for help all the time. On my spare time I love to mentor. I give them clothes if I’m not using them, take them to find AOs, skins, and hair if they want it. I teach them how to adjust prims, build, give them resources and a few Ls and send them on their merry way. I’ve made some wonderful friends that way. An acquaintance of mine once said something that stuck with me. “Love thy newbie. You never know who they’re going to grow up to be.”
I do my best to nurture and guide clever people I meet. It’s a joy to rediscover SL through their eyes.
How would you describe yourself in one word?
Cheeky.
