Second Life name: Laleeta Xue

1 – How did you discover Second Life and what made you create an account?
I live in France so I think it’s safe to say Second Life is much less popular here; still I discovered Second Life through a friend who mentioned it. I am used to playing online games and was a player on World of Warcraft so I decided to sign up to see what Second Life had to offer and if it could capture my interest.

2 – How did you come up with your Second Life name?
The story of my SL name is quite a fun one actually, I had recently seen the movie called “Bride and Prejudice” and the name of the female lead was Laleeta so naturally the name came to my mind when I had to create my account. I later found out however that instead of being spelled Laleeta as I first thought the name was Lalita, so I guess I was wrong on that part!
As for the last name Xue, I used to live in Singapore which has very strong Chinese background so choosing this last name was my way of reconnecting with that part of my life.

3 – Lots of people only stay inSL for a week or a month after creating an account. What made you stay and what motivates you to log back in?
I had been in Second Life for a week now and the novelty was wearing off. I was totally lost, had no friends to talk to, had no idea what was to be done and to be honest I was completely bored. But then, and I am not sure how anymore, I stumbled upon the blog of Alicia Chenaux (http://aliciachenaux.blogspot.com) and when I saw just how much fun she was having in SL I thought « I want that too ! ». So I stayed, started my own blog and soon met with the two people who were my first friends in SL and who showed me just how much fun could be had in it: Calista and Cailin.
Nowadays I still log almost every day to SL, I have amazing friends who make me laugh till I cry and a lot of small projects who keep my creative juices running and I love it!

4 – What have you been doing in SL? Tell us your story: what have you been up to or what have you created.
Like I said I started my SL adventures with my personal blog. From it I met a lot of people who are still my friends as of now. I then moved on to a freebie blog with Calista and Cailin called Baking Cupcakes. Sadly Cailin and Calista are not on SL anymore but the blog is still going with two other friends and writers Asthenia and Pumpkin.
I had for a while my own poses store called Pffiou! and I truly enjoyed it. However I took a small break recently and had to close it, I will see about re-opening it in the future!
My latest project is a “fashion” blog with my best friend in SL, Asthenia, called Adorable Lazybums. I say “fashion” because we do not pretend to be anything big or amazing stylists. We just want to have fun and dress up that is all.
Most of my time spent in SL though is really just me being silly and having fun with my friends and the day that stops will be probably the day I stop logging back!

5 – Have you found, developed or improved any skills because of SL?
I think one skill I have found developed and improved is my Photoshop skill. Simply because before coming to SL I had never used it before so it could only go up from there!
I also learned how to make poses and I guess I could say I learned how to blog since my SL blog was the first blog I ever made.

6 – Could you share a funny or awkward story that happened to you inSL?
Oh god that’s a tough one because I mainly spend my time being totally crazy! But let’s see if I can recall one in particular… Well there is this one time that is probably not the best thing that ever happened to me but I still chuckle when I think about it. Asthenia and I were stalking a lucky chair and we saw someone afk next to it with a bottle attached to their hand. We knew that bottle very well because we had it ourselves, it was a bottle that you wore and once you said “lemoso” made you do this completely silly dance. So of course we both wore ours and went to stand next to the guy and used every excuses possible to launch the dance! It was just completely silly and a great SL moment! My only wish is that we had stayed long enough for the guy to get back from his afk and dance with us. Well dance with us with him knowing it that is…

7 – What would you change or improve in Second Life?
Like everyone else I guess: the lag and the glitches. Especially those clothes glitches that drive everyone crazy, I can’t count the number of times I end up with the famous “flesh pants” anymore. But otherwise nothing else comes to mind.

8 – Can you share your current and/or future projects for SL?
My current projects I already mentioned earlier, as for my future projects I have been thinking of starting a furniture store with my boyfriend where he would make the builds and I would do the poses but that’s still a project for now.

9 – Have you ever had any issues whatsoever within Second Life? If so, how did you reported and was the feedback positive?
Not that I recall of, no.

10 – Is Second Life merely an online game or do you consider it more of a metaverse or a virtual world?
I don’t consider it as a game anymore even if it’s highly entertaining. I guess I still view it as a giant chat room with benefits. It’s of course very hard to describe Second Life when you have so many emotional ties to it so I guess it just is what is: an amazing place to be!

11 – Imagine a new resident asks for your help. What would do? What would you tell him/her?
I have helped some new residents here and there with the basic stuff: walking, shopping, flying etc… I still have issues however when they ask me what is to be done in SL and what’s the aim of it. I think everyone creates their own SL with their friends, families, blogs, stores etc… However that is a hard concept to explain to a new resident and it’s even harder to make it sound appealing.
