Second Life name: Phoenix Chapman
Rez Date: January 9, 2007

1 – How did you discover Second Life and what made you create an account?
A couple of my good friends from the Sims 2 forums community had found it, and they asked me to join. So I did.

2 – How did you come up with your Second Life name?
I honestly can’t remember. I suspect it might have had to do with the phoenix from Harry Potter though, I’m an unabashedly huge dorky fan of that series. The last name was random, it was just one of the ones I could choose from.

3 – Lots of people only stay inSL for a week or a month after creating an account. What made you stay and what motivates you to log back in?
Haha I actually didn’t stay; that first day I was so lost and my two friends weren’t around. I couldn’t figure out how to do anything, so I didn’t come back for a month. Then one day I tried it again, only this time my friends were around to help, and I got the hang of it.

4 – What have you been doing in SL? Tell us your story: what have you been up to or what have you created.
Well, I came back to SL fairly recently after a year spent taking care of my RL. Since then, I dived fairly quickly back into planning this year’s Shoe Fair. I’m definitely most proud of planning the two shoe fairs for charities. :-) Other than that, I really enjoy blogging, it’s a way to get my creativity out since I have no other skills! :P

5 – Have you found, developed or improved any skills because of SL?
Well, though they are still lamentable, my skills with Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro have been developed. I didn’t have any idea how to do anything with them. I still suck at both, but I’m getting better and my friend Nyte is teaching me how to use Photoshop for more stuff.

6 – Could you share a funny or awkward story that happened to you inSL?
Hmm…my whole life is a bit of an awkward moment! I tend to be fairly blunt and sometimes a bit tactless, though I don’t mean to be rude or mean. So stuff can come out in completely the wrong way.

7 – What would you change or improve in Second Life?
More groups. Less crashing. The official SL viewer would take on all the awesomeness of the Emerald viewer. Linden Labs would not be trying to take away any money from the creators, who are the reason we’re all still here in the first place.

8 – Can you share your current and/or future projects for SL?
The 2009 SL Footwear Expo is my big project right now, happening from November 22 – December 6!

9 – Have you ever had any issues whatsoever within Second Life? If so, how did you reported and was the feedback positive?
I’ve never reported anything on my own behalf.

10 – Is Second Life merely an online game or do you consider it more of a metaverse or a virtual world?
Definitely not just a game. I consider it a virtual world.

11 – Imagine a new resident asks for your help. What would do? What would you tell him/her?
I used to have a notecard full of places to get free/cheap hair/clothes and other things. Now I just give them a blog link to a freebie blog, and to someone else’s blog that I can’t quite remember at the moment because I’m so busy with the fair!

12 – How would you describe yourself in one word?
Compassionate.
