how to | clear cache in Second Life®

I’ve received this as a notecard in-world having Orange Planer as the creator. It’s a very helpful notecard since I’ve tried to explain a couple of time how to manually clear cache and it wasn’t clear to them. Maybe I wasn’t making myself clear enough. Anyway, if you do it right, you won’t damage your computer by manually clearing cache generated by Second Life® viewer.
You’ve lost inventory, a window has disappeared, the viewer is acting strangely, you can’t see particles. You’ve uninstalled Second Life and reinstalled, you’ve cleared your cache, you’ve tried going to the beta grid. Nothing’s worked.
There are a couple things left to try, neither of which you will hear from Linden Lab.
1) Manually clear the cache.
2) Remove the settings.xml or settings_releasecandidate.xml file
CLEARING THE CACHE
=============
For Windows XP
“%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\SecondLife”Copy the above line, then,
1. Click the Start button, then Run
2. Paste the line into the Run box and press Enter
3. Exit Second Life
4. The window will show a large number of files. Press Ctrl-A to select all
5. Press the Del key
6. Close the window and re-start Second Life.For Windows Vista
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\SecondLife
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\SecondLifeCopy the above line, then,
1. Click the Start button, then Search
2. Paste the line into the Run box and press Enter
3. Exit Second Life
4. The window will show a large number of files. Press Ctrl-A to select all
5. Press the Del key
6. Close the window and re-start Second Life.For Macintosh
Users/Person’s Name/Library/Caches/SecondLife1. Navigate to the folder above
REMOVING THE SETTINGS FILE
==================
For Windows XP
“%userprofile%\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings”1. Copy the line I just gave you.
2. Go to Start – Run and paste the line there
3. Press Enter. A window should open that contains a couple files;
one of them is called “settings.xml” – you may not see the .xml portion.
4. Exit Second Life
5. Delete the settings.xml file
6. Restart Second Life.————————————
For Windows Vista
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings1. Copy the line above
2. Go to Start – Search and paste the line there using Ctrl-V
3. Press Enter. A window should open that contains a couple files;
one of them is called “settings.xml” – you may not see the .xml portion.
4. Exit Second Life
5. Delete the settings.xml file
6. Restart Second Life.————————————
For Macintosh
Person’s Name/Library/Application Support/Second Life/user_settings1. Navigate to the location above
2. Make sure you see the settings file
3. Exit Second Life
4. Delete the file.
5. Restart Second Life————————————
Note: You are doing this at your own risk. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it, you better take your computer to a proper assistance. I cannot be held responsible by something going wrong with your computer.
If you are using Windows 7, simply follow the instructions to Windows Vista.

This is really useful as I’ve been having some stupid issues with SL recently, I’ve just done this and I think it’s helped! Cheers!

No Windows 7 as definições também servem?
December 21st, 2009 @ 14:10

Ana,
I really really love the new look (and your header!!!) and I am glad you got it working. I am sorry I couldn’t help so much (I was stuck doing mine and it’s all about research as I am the WORST designer in the world). I love this theme too.
<3,
Kess
