Second Life name: Alienbear Gupte
Rez Date: 14 Sept 2005
1 – How did you discover Second Life and what made you create an account?
- Knew about SL from my TSO (the sim online) game’s friends.
- “I can design and creat whatever I want” made me creating an account
2 – How did you come up with your Second Life name?
- Actually I use “Alienbear” as my internet/game’s name since I start using internet. So I keep using this in Second life when I start this game.
3 – Lots of people only stay inSL for a week or a month after creating an account. What made you stay and what motivates you to log back in?
- “Able to Designing & creating everything I like” and “the happy feeling when people compliment on my designs” make me keep staying in SL
4 – What have you been doing in SL? Tell us your story: what have you been up to or what have you created.
When I started playing SL, I just explored around in sl; camping in money chairs; hunting for money trees… etc. “Shelter” is the first place I ‘ve visited. Helpers there are really helpful and show me what I can do in SL. Though it is fun to visit around, but I am someone who is very impatient & easy to get bored. So I started to make something on my 512sq.m land. Do you know what I make? Jewelry? NO.. it is …. WATERFALL! During making waterfall, I found that the SL build in prims are so fun to play with. You can shrink, cut , chop, tint.. in order to make whatever you want. I love details & this waterfall used up all the prims in my place. So I start thinking of making something that can wear on the body….. JEWELERY.
When I started , there isn’t any jewelry classes or clothing classes in world. So all I do is trying & testing every prims by myself. My first pieces can’t say as a “design” since it was just a few circle with pattern on the neck with a draping circle sapphire. I never thought of selling my pieces until I met my friend Jack Hathor in sl in late Sept 2005. He let me placing my only one jewelry pieces in his playground; helped me making my design’ s logo and that is how I start my jewelry shop. I started designing & crafting jewelry pieces since Oct 2005. I found that I addicted in it and time make my crafting skills better & better. It make me can’t stop designing & crafting. Many times due to thieves, copycat, dramas and unrespective issues make me want to leave SL. But compliments from my customers and group members make me keep designing and creating virtual jewelry here. Think maybe this is the only motivation for me right now ![]()
Then in this four years life in sl, I am lucky to have chance to design special crowns & jewelry for beauty pagenants, RFL , charity events … etc. Those are something really make me unforgetable. Share with you few of them:-
5 – Have you found, developed or improved any skills because of SL?
Absolutely yes. Before playing SL, I don’t know I love designing; I can’t draw; I don’t know any graphic software like photoshop etc; I love graphic but I never know how to make; I don’t have confident in everything; I don’t know if people love my designs.
Because of SL, I found myself. I finally know what suit me. You can never know that my previous career & educational background are totally different from what I am doing in sl. Because of SL, I went to take some graphic design course; play with some graphic software; take some drawing classes.. etc. Because of SL, I am more confident than before and seems that I find my new dream. And think the most thing I improve is my English.
6 – Could you share a funny or awkward story that happened to you inSL?
Funny story.. really hard to think. I am not social in sl. I love hiding here. Most of my sl life is in my castle , my workshop. The most funny part of my sl life was the period when I played with my kid avatar role playing. Just like playing Barbie, I have sl parents, grandmas, grandpas… etc. I loved to use gun to shoot my little friends & cousins; I tried to use the funny animations in digging my unkies & papa into the ground; being flowergirls of all aunties unkies weddings.. etc
7 – What would you change or improve in Second Life?
- improve the public concern of the copyright
- improve the rezing time of Scuplties
- fix all the bugs that affected jewelry crafting
8 – Can you share your current and/or future projects for SL?
Current:- designing hoilday jewelries
Future:- not have any planning still but wish one day I can build a museum in SL showing all my retired/ one of the kind jewelry designs.
9 – Have you ever had any issues whatsoever within Second Life? If so, how did you reported and was the feedback positive?
Yes. bug & thieves issues. I reported abuse and bug reporting but well thieves still around; bug still here. So nothing can help.
10 – Is Second Life merely an online game or do you consider it more of a metaverse or a virtual world?
both online game & virtual world for me
11 – Imagine a new resident asks for your help. What would do? What would you tell him/her?
Will try to help him/ her when I have time and if I can help out.
12 – How would you describe yourself in one word?
Dream
