1 – How did you discover Second Life and what made you create an account?
I found about it in the Wired magazine but created my account after Slashdot posted about the opensourcing of the SL viewer, at the beginning of 2007.
2 – How did you come up with your Second Life name?
One of my old hacker handles was CodeBastard, and I liked Redgrave because of the red. The rest is history!
3 – Lots of people only stay inSL for a week or a month after creating an account. What made you stay and what motivates you to log back in?
Two things: people and creativity. Being able to be a photographer one day, and a programmer another day, as SL merges a very large array of mediums. And the friends are priceless. Love makes me want to come back.
4 – What have you been doing in SL? Tell us your story: what have you been up to or what have you created.
Lots of things, I guess. I created a certain number of scripts, some free, some for my business MechanizedLife, including my big sellers MachinimaCam and FilterCam. I did some machinima movies, and lots of photography/retouchings, including the Boudoir Rouge series. I organize events, classes, art shows and parties at my sim, Rouge. I currently work for Beta Technologies, a metaverse company, and I work on some freelance projects for SL related businesses. I also distribute hugs and drop love bombs. I blog once a year. I am sometimes a sushi table.
5 – Have you found, developed or improved any skills because of SL?
Many yes.. programming, photography, artistic, social media skills. I think SL is an incredible platform for expanding your mind.
6 – Could you share a funny or awkward story that happened to you inSL?
I hang with weird people so yeah, probably plenty of moments, and I’m rather silly and rarely take myself seriously. But for some reason I can’t at this moment remember any of my recent gaffes and attempts at good taste… Did I mentioned I was a sushi table? That was as funny/awkward as it can get.
7 – What would you change or improve in Second Life?
Better ways of handling content theft, better avatar mesh, better friendlist management, a way to share Windlight settings, persistent storage for scripts, and surely a few other things. But complaining apart, I think it is pretty amazing as it is.
8 – Can you share your current and/or future projects for SL?
Many things, especially scripting several new products from the MechanizedLife roadmap, continuing and hopefully finishing Boudoir Rouge one day, and I would love to make more art machinima, as I miss doing some.
9 – Have you ever had any issues whatsoever within Second Life? If so, how did you reported and was the feedback positive?
Depends on what.. I rarely had to report bugs. As for sim issues I have a concierge account so it’s quite expeditive service when it’s needed. Rarely had any issues at all, and the service is premium. Rarely had to fill out abuse reports, the mute and ignore is usually the most sensible avenue, but again rarely happens.
10 – Is Second Life merely an online game or do you consider it more of a metaverse or a virtual world?
It’s a virtual world, with an economy that translates to RL, that includes gaming and RP elements. I see it as both, because they are not mutually exclusive. SL without any gaming aspect would be, let’s admit it, pretty boring, and the other way around, if it was just a game, long time I would have went back to play Half-Life.
11 – Imagine a new resident asks for your help. What would do? What would you tell him/her?
It happened a few times that I got asked for help by new residents. I usually tell him or her what I believe is the only important thing I learned about SL: it’s not about who you are, it’s how you behave. Depending on what they need, I send them on some freebie and fashion blogs and shop for them. I usually toss a few hundred lindens to help them get a fresh skin, decent shooz, hair and a decent outfit. I show them how to search for content, use their friendlist, the basics.
12 – How would you describe yourself in one word?
Serious.
