1 – How did you discover Second Life and what made you create an account?
I saw a random banner ad on a gaming website — I don’t know which one. I have always been interested in the computer as a creative tool and I was hooked immediately.

2 – How did you come up with your Second Life name?
I had recently seen the Adrian Lyne version of Lolita and I loved how the girl’s nickname was “Lo”. I know that sounds a little weird, but there it is. Then later my friend Ginny and I were thinking up “full names” for our avatars and I came up with Lola Jean Jacobs, which I use for my email address. Hers was “Ginny Ava Talamasca”.

3 – Lots of people only stay in SL for a week or a month after creating an account. What made you stay and what motivates you to log back in?
It’s been five years for me and I can safely say that Second Life has change my life by virtue of the people I have met and the opportunities it afforded me. I took a two-year break three years ago and while I needed to do so, all I can say about SL is that it’s … fun. I enjoy creating things. I enjoy the community.

4 – What have you been doing in SL? Tell us your story: what have you been up to or what have you created.
I am a fashion designer. I started out doing skins in 2004 and moved on to clothing. I’ve dabbled in hair, but I’ve never really been satisfied with what I made. I founded Pixel Pinup, one of the first fashion blog/magazines, and kept it going until my break in 2006. I miss it.
I’ve been back in SL for over a year now and I’m really happy to be designing again. I am not sure where my line, Church of Luxe, is going, but I am interested in branching out to other things — accessories, for instance — that’d be cool.

5 – Have you found, developed or improved any skills because of SL?
SL is responsible for my proficiency in Adobe Photoshop as well as fledgling forays into 3D programs like Lightwave, Modo, and Zbrush.

6 – Could you share a funny or awkward story that happened to you in SL?
Uh uh well there was that time we dressed up as Scientologists and went to grief a club. Or the time we dressed up as robots and walked across the mainland. Most of my stories involve dressing up as something.

7 – What would you change or improve in Second Life?
Aw hell. The alpha bug — yes, I hate it, I hate it with the fire of a thousand burning suns.

8 – Can you share your current and/or future projects for SL?
I kind of want to do accessories or furniture or a Victorian dress line or jewelry but the fact is I would really like to just do my own thing.

9 – Have you ever had any issues whatsoever within Second Life? If so, how did you reported and was the feedback positive?
Eh

10 – Is Second Life merely an online game or do you consider it more of a metaverse or a virtual world?
I consider it an online game, yes. You could say it qualifies as a hobby for people.

11 – Imagine a new resident asks for your help. What would do? What would you tell him/her?
I have always helped people who have asked for it and I used to be a SL Mentor. I’ll happily help a new designer with Photoshop and 3D program tips.

12 – How would you describe yourself in one word?
Direct.

Great Interview! And I am happy, that Lo is back and active as a fashion designer in SL again. She was my favorite fashion designer many years ago. Her hand drawn designs were unsurpassed for realism – yet she always succeeded in keeping it casual and not “overdone”. Some of her old pieces (the simple lace bra, for example) are still mainstays of me daily wardrobe. :)

Seems like I have to pay a visit to the Church of Luxe. :)
