Second Life name: Stacie Pryor
Rez Date: March 21, 2008

1 – How did you discover Second Life and what made you create an account?
I first heard about Second Life in an episode of The Office. The short segment really intrigued me, so I did a little research. I have always been a gamer, and SL definitely appealed to me. So, I got really bored one day and decided to give SL a try. I really had no idea what SL had in store for me, but I have never regretted joining.
2 – How did you come up with your Second Life name?
The first part was easy. Stacie is my RL name. I obviously lack creativity in the name department. As far as my SL last name, I actually closed my eyes and pointed to the list: Pryor it was.
3 – Lots of people only stay inSL for a week or a month after creating an account. What made you stay and what motivates you to log back in?
I was very lucky and met a few dear friends within hours of joining SL. So those friends kept me initially interested. But, I’ll admit it took me a long while to get the hang of it. I’m a smart girl, but my learning curve was not the best. And I didn’t have much help. So, I took it slow and worked my way around the grid, taking in the sights, meeting new people, and eventually falling in love with clothes. Then, one day I discovered the iheartSL community blog and decided I wanted to be a fashion blogger. I thought about it for a few weeks and decided to jump in feet first. Once I got involved in fashion blogging, the doors started opening for me. I met a ton of new bloggers and designers and eventually started blogged more regularly and even began writing articles for ROLE Magazine. Now, I’m a stylist for ROLE Magazine and actively manage my own website where I blog quite frequently. But the reason I have stayed in SL has always been the wonderful friendships I hold there, and it will always be that way.
4 – What have you been doing in SL? Tell us your story: what have you been up to or what have you created.
The beginning of my SL was primarily centered around hanging out with friends and just getting my bearings in SL. I slowly transitioned to focusing on fashion and started blogging with Cerrie Janus at Fashion Ascension while simultaneously forming new friendships and relationships with a wide variety of people in SL. I eventually transitioned to my own self-hosted WordPress blog and also began actively writing articles for ROLE Magazine. Then, I became a stylist for ROLE Magazine and have been working hard on monthly fashion spreads. Along the way, I have met so many interesting people in SL. One of my dear friends, CodeBastard Redgrave, introduced me to Plurk, which opened up a whole plethora of opportunities and friendships. I really feel that Plurk has added a new dimension to my SL and truly opened my eyes to the wonderful people who reside there.
5 – Have you found, developed or improved any skills because of SL?
Wait, shopping isn’t a skill? To be honest, I have really really really wanted to learn a skill in SL for a long time now. Besides shopping and blogging and chatting, that is, although I could win a contest in modifying attachments. I challenged myself to build a house, which I did successfully (although it didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted it, lol). And I have considered playing around with sculpties to create jewelry or possibly getting into photoshop and designing a few pieces of clothing, but time won’t really allow for that right now. So, who knows? Maybe I’ll finally get around to contributing something to SL besides pretty pictures and fashion suggestions.
6 – Could you share a funny or awkward story that happened to you inSL?
Not many people know the REAL Stacie, but I was a bit of a troublemaker in my early days in SL. To be specific, I have been known to harass bystanders at public sandboxes and even got a few bans under my belt. Ahhh…those were the days…
7 – What would you change or improve in Second Life?
To be quite honest, I have never been a fan of the regular LL viewer. It has always been far too buggy and laggy, and I simply prefer alternative viewers like Cool Viewer, Rainbow Viewer, and Imprudence. Also, I do think we could use an updated avatar mesh, but I know that won’t be coming anytime soon. You have to admit…SL feet are just plain ugly…
8 – Can you share your current and/or future projects for SL?
I’m currently an active stylist for the ROLE Magazine monthly fashion spreads. I also maintain my blog (staciepryor.com) and provide looks of the day as well as clothing, skin, accessory and furniture reviews. I truly love SL fashion, and I plan to stick around for a long while.
9 – Have you ever had any issues whatsoever within Second Life? If so, how did you reported and was the feedback positive?
There isn’t much in my SL that can’t be cured with an eject, ban, and mute defensive.
10 – Is Second Life merely an online game or do you consider it more of a metaverse or a virtual world?
I don’t consider SL to be a game. For me, it is a virtual world filled with real people with real emotions. There are no set goals or directives. No timelines to follow or objectives to complete. For me, SL can be whatever I want it to be, and if I ever become unhappy with it, I’ll leave. But my associations here run pretty deep, so no, not a game.
11 – Imagine a new resident asks for your help. What would do? What would you tell him/her?
I have encountered quite a few residents looking for help. I will admit that I am turned off by those only seeking lindens, and I encourage them to buy lindens or find a way to earn them. But, I have been known to give lindens away to those who don’t expect it. I even spent about 3 hours with one girl who needed help with her avatar. I TPed her around, showed her my recommendations, and helped her build her avatar from scratch. And now she owns a shop of her own, so I’m fulfilled in knowing I helped her out a little bit.
12 – How would you describe yourself in one word?
Happy.

Great to see an article about a blogger that isn’t just about fashion, but rather the person themselves. Nice work Ana and Stacie.
