do you like pencil skirts? I sure do!

Posted on April 1, 2008 by Ana Lutetia | 9 Comments

I like system skirts or like some people call it non prim skirts or even pencil skirts. I like how the avatar looks wearing a pencil skirt. It gives a girl a stylish look. Recently, in the SLâ„¢ fashion scene we are seeing a wide variety of pencil skirts and outfits with pencil skirts. Unfortunately, SLâ„¢ doesn’t like pencil skirts…
In the latest version of ReleaseCandidate (RC4) the pencil skirt worn doesn’t show up! If I go into edit appearance, I see it but as soon as I close the window it’s gone again. I don’t know if the other people see it or not but I am *not* willing to try.
So for the sake of all the pencil skirts in Second Life®, please vote on the jira issue:
VWR-2778 :: System skirt textures turn invisible on wearing

*UPDATE*
I received a notecard in-world with info about this bug:

There is a recent System Skirt Issue in the new SL build that hopefully they will catch on the next releases. Until then…if you are having problems with system skirts disappearing on you, try this method found on the SL forum. It worked for me.

1) Wear a system skirt, such as Asset ID: 64fc29a1-b205-00d2-4ae1-fd507030e948
Observe, the skirt texture will appear for a second or 2 and then turn entirely invisible. The skirt is still shown as being ‘worn’ in inventory.

2) Right-click yourself and go into appearance, or select the worn skirt in inventory and select ‘edit’
Observe the skirt appears correctly in the preview panes of the appearance edit menu.

3) Click ‘Close’
Observe the skirt disappears again when you exit the appearance menu.

4) Right-click yourself and go into appearance, or select the worn skirt in inventory and select ‘edit’ again

5) Select the ‘Skirt’ tab and adjust a slider. (e.g. length)
Observe the skirt disappears from your avatar.

6) Select ‘Save and ‘Close’
Observe the skirt now appears correctly on your avatar.

7) Unwear and wear the skirt several times.
Observe the skirt now appears on your avatar when worn in most cases without disappearing.

The listed workaround works fine for skirts if you have permissions to modify them, but for those you do not have permissions to modify, I’ve found the following works just as well.

Go into edit appearance
Goto the skirt tab
Remove the skirt (don’t close Edit Appearance)
Wear the skirt again
Now close Edit appearance

If you do it this way, the skirt tends to not disappear. On the other hand, every time I try to wear it without being in Editing Appearance mode, the skirt will vanish except for a funky little oval on my left leg. I hope this workaround helps someone.

I saw and yours look awesome, SySy! It won’t make any sense to make them go away but one can never be sure. Hope they don’t go away!!

Ana, this is probably my number one frustration with SL, perhaps outside of not being able to have more than 25 groups. I will certainly go vote for this since so many outfits I have or want to purchase have system skirts and I am unable to wear any of them.

Oh and I saw this has been an issue since November. I wonder how we can persuade Linden Labs to expedite the matter. Why must one glaring glitch take 5 months to fix?

My goodness this makes me even more determined than ever not to upgrade to the new Release Candidate! (Still running 18.5.3)

Genna, for me, it wasn’t happening in a while. Maybe I wouldn’t wear a system skirt in a while. I has sooooo frustrated with it.

    Quaintly,
I always use the latest client. My friends say I am nuts but I am looking for the newest software.

i discussed this with LL on live chat and they told me its cause server which supports our system skirts needs to be restarted, so if we have that problem we should submmit ticket and wait till next restart of SL to be able to see our system skirt we re wearing. last few viewvers are complite katastrofa i must agree…

Thanks, Mo, but restart SL by LL or by restarting the viewer?
