Snowglobe viewer 1.3
Posted on February 9, 2010 at 1:26 by Ana Lutetia | 5 Comments
I have been preaching about Snowglobe viewer qualities for the past 6 months and in my fashion posts I always include the information about the viewer used and lately it has been no other than Snowglobe. I have been using the test builds and I have been having a very good SL experience. In my vocabulary, a good SL experience means (almost) no crashing and a fast viewer. I have been using Snowglobe’s test builds and, for me, they are way better than the official viewer. Fast and stable is what I look for in a viewer. Oh – and I also need a worn tab… I am crossing my fingers that the next build would have that amazing Auto-Response feature (that Emerald viewer has).
The latest feature I’ve discover is the Google Translator in chat. It recognizes the languages I am writing in and immediately translates with extreme some accuracy. However, I believe the translation can only be done in chat but not in IMs.

For me, the increased bandwith is a must have in a viewer. I am hoping that one day it might be up to 8Mb instead of just 5Mb even thought 5Mb is way better than 1.5Mb in the official viewer. The latest builds of Snowglobe had this proxy menu:

Having good FPS (frames per second) is always great… even if it’s in my alt account and on a skybox at 1000m up in the clouds. In my main account, it’s usually good too.

You can find all the find about Snowglobe viewer in the official downloads page or in the wiki:

review | SYSY’s Lolla dresses
Posted on February 8, 2010 at 1:49 by Ana Lutetia | 1 Comment
SySy Chapman over at SYSY’s has created some very sexy mini dresses thinking of the dancers for the musician Lollo String that SySy and Musashi-do are sponsoring. Lolla dresses are available in black, blue and red with all layers and modifiable attachments.
These dresses seemed perfect to feature the latest SHAG hair by Sadie Aries (and Sebastien Aries): La La Love You and Sweet Disposition. I am very happy with the new red shades, especially the Reds II, and am now trying Ruby instead of my usual Falu hue from SHAG.
And boots! These aren’t just any boots. They are the just released new boots from a new brand inSL: Persé by Aphrodite Outlander. They are also Aphrodite’s first approach to boots and they totally rock. You can find them at the store in lots of colour combos and with and without the buttons.

interview | Namssor Daguerre and a (second) life of creating skins
Posted on February 6, 2010 at 1:37 by Gwyneth Llewelyn | 1 Comment
We’re so used to take things for granted in Second Life® that we often forget how crude and primitive the whole environment was, just a few years ago. It’s not only that Second Life was less stable and had less features and glitches; the whole content was more primitive, too.
These days, even newbies join SL with a moderately decent skin, and it’s only us veterans that remember the old “rubber skin” which was originally designed by Linden Lab, and plagued newbies for uncountable years. The reason that first skin was so badly designed was not really because LL’s own internal team were clueless; it was mostly because the “Linden skin” loaded very quickly, since it had so little information. Compressed, it merely took some 100 KBytes to transfer — and, to make it even faster, LL distributes the skin with the viewer.
But… well… it was simply too ugly, a sore for our more demanding eyes. It’s thus worth to turn the calendar back a few years and understand how it all started.

suetabulous Yootz is the creative mind for the Beetlebones brand. When I first saw her cuties in flickr, I was in awe. She really knows cuteness! I also like her colour combinations and the offer in layers. Both of these outfits are available in more colours and you should really check her creations to see what else she has for sale.

review | Deborah Embroided Ensemble by INSOLENCE
Posted on February 1, 2010 at 20:41 by Ana Lutetia | 2 Comments
I have this thing for lingerie from INSOLENCE… I truly admire camilla Yosuke’s work and the fine delicacy of the textures she creates for her pieces. The latest, Deborah, is no exception and as always comes with a lot of options (as you can see below) and in several colours: beige, purple, blue,silver, gold and black & red.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, you want to be prepared for the occasion!

review | !Rebel Hope Designs – Jacqueline Evening Gown Noir
Posted on February 1, 2010 at 3:47 by Ana Lutetia | No Comments
And why not continue with gowns…? Rebel Hope takes beauty and perfection to a whole new level. The Jacqueline Gown is breathtaking. It is so well crafted that even with all the layers worn you can see any seams and the system skirt gives it another flair but it can’t be worn without it. To top if off, Rebel added the Elizabeth Tiaras and Earrings.

Avatars United
Posted on January 31, 2010 at 21:17 by Ana Lutetia | 4 Comments
A few days ago, Linden Lab acquire Avatars United and since then this has been the new SL hype. Everyday, more and more people create accounts there and find my old account. I joined in June 2008 when I discovered about this network… perhaps I read about it in twitter. I really can’t recall and if it wasn’t for LL buying it, I would have forgot about it. This is a nice move by Linden Lab because no one remembers SL profiles anyway…

The most interesting feature of this network is the fact that is only for avatars whenever they’re from. I remember when I joined that they cleared stated that they didn’t want anything to do with real people but only with avatars. Another interesting thing is that you can unite with your friends from other virtual worlds or games and you can associate your Second Life avatar with your all your other avatars from everywhere.
Here’s some of the features, according to the official blog:
One of our priorities this year (and there are many, from making the experience more intuitive to reducing Lag), is to give Residents new and better ways to connect and share, through features like the following:
* Searchable profiles
* Friend and activity feeds
* Widgets and viral content
* Optional registration and sign-in using credentials from other properties (Facebook, Yahoo!, etc.)
* APIs that enable developers to create widgets, tools, and sites pulling from selected SL data feeds
One of the first thoughts that crossed my mind was that after this, Linden Lab would acquire Plurk since the rumor is that it is used mostly by SLers and without SLers maybe it wouldn’t exist. Then I thought this was Second Life’s FaceBook and was pointed out that it is against the ToS to register as an avatar (in FaceBook).
As Prad Prathivi pointed it out, it still lacks some sort of avatar verification tool and my opinion it is a rather crude environment but you have a link to provide feedback. It would be great to also a widget to embed in the blog, to be able to upload videos, to have some sort of chat in it and, most important of all, it lacks a mute/ignore button or option. But fear not. According to M Linden, this is only the beginning:
Avatars United is just the beginning, not the end-state. Look at it not just as a destination site, but as the beginning of a larger social initiative. We want to create connections between these properties so that all can flourish. The ecosystem is powerful and the more interconnections, the better. AU has a nascent developer program. I’d encourage folks to start thinking about fun apps.

You can find my Avatars United profile here. Feel free to add me!
